The British No 1 needed 10 break points before she finally converted one and had to come from behind in the second set before winning 6-4 6-3. Jo Konta overcame Magdalena Rybarikova to advance to the second round of the Italian Open The British No 1 came from behind in the second set to beat Rybarikova 6-4 6-3 on Monday Konta was awaiting the winner of Taipei’s Su Wei Hsieh and Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus. Rybarikova was the unfamiliar name who made a run to the Wimbledon semi-finals last summer and was only playing Konta because of a reshuffle of the draw necessitated by the late withdrawal of the in-form Petra Kvitova who won in Madrid at the weekend. On a slightly breezy day on the beautiful Pietrangeli court at the Foro Italico chances came and went for Konta throughout the first set and she went behind before suddenly reeling off two consecutive break opportunities to take the opener. Konta found her ruthless streak to overcome fellow Wimbledon semi-finalist Rybarikova She looked totally in control at 2-0 in the second set only to lose the next three games. However she then rediscovered her knack of seizing opportunities to win the next four. Ultimately she won five out of sixteen break points but it was otherwise a purposeful performance with her notably unafraid to attack the net and take the ball on playing to her strengths.
